I am a Christian: My Southern upbringing definitely influenced my ideas of Christianity. Because going to church is just part of the culture, I pretty much thought I was a Christian by default. The summer before I entered high school I spent about 2 weeks visiting my aunt and cousin in Mississippi. During that visit, a conversation led them to ask me why I thought I was going to heaven. I answered, “well…..I haven’t really ever done anything bad. I am good person.” They so gingerly shared with me that wasn’t enough to be a follower of Christ. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… Rom 3:23 I would like to say my walk with the Lord began there, but I can’t. That conversation did serve as a divine annoyance for me for the next 4 and a half years. It wasn’t until I was attending a bible study at a BSM of a small community college in Lufkin, TX did I realize how desperately I was in need of a Savior. All my good choices, all my good intentions up to that point were only to exalt me. Since then, my life serves a much greater cause than the exaltation of self. To know Christ and make Him known….my new mantra.
I am a wife: Our story begins while demolishing/cleaning an old german restaurant to convert it into a church building. We were looking pretty filthy scraping up a 70’s pattern linoleum when Joel began to ask me a million questions. Because he is a very quiet and private person I kept wondering, “He sure is talkative today.” Through all his inquiring, we realized we had a great love for the cinema in common. The work day was closing and he mentioned going to see a movie together. I thought he couldn’t possibly have meant just me and just him go to the movie. So I absent-mindedly said, ” Sure! Let’s call the gang and see who wants to go!” We both deduced that none of our other friends would be interested in seeing the movie we had picked, so he patiently commented ” we should just go….just the two of us” . We have been together ever since! We married May 15, 2004 and have been to a million movies together. It is still our favorite thing to do! Presently we live in San Angelo, Texas. Joel is in ministry and speaks at youth events/conferences. I work as a Training Coordinator at a credit union.
I am a granddaughter, daughter and a sister: Here’s the proof 🙂
I design invitations and other stuff that goes on paper: I began my own business last year out of a passion for design. It is called The Black Parrot. I design wedding invitations, stationary, business cards, etc. It is so much fun and a great outlet for my inner artist.
I am music junkie: I could talk about music forever. Mostly I love musicians that were making hits before I was born (1981), but with a little convincing and prodding I am open to newer artists. My absolute favs are the Beatles and Sting.
